Quite simply, the Literacy First Process starts from the foundation of building the capacity of the teachers and the leadership team. From the very start, Literacy First establishes teacher capability and confidence and strong supportive instructional leadership as crucial success factors that are set in place with easy to follow step-by-step procedures that:
- Strengthen teacher knowledge of the effective skills and processes as well as how to teach in a systematic explicit manner to develop cognition and comprehension across all subjects.
- Increase the instructional leadership skills of the administration to effectively monitor and support all the critical elements necessary to achieve the goal.
Literacy First provides a comprehensive 3-year PreK-5 plan to Accelerated Reading Achievement, which includes the following a concise structured daily plan for students to receive 2 hours of systematic and explicit reading instruction plus up to 20 minutes of monitored independent reading practice; a customized schedule for school-wide achievement across all grades; on-going on-site professional development, coaching and consultation for teachers and administrators; an online data collection, management and analysis system; and registration in our annual Leadership Institute.
